Bench rest discipline shooting at HESA  uses a small bore .22 bench rest or target rifle over 25 yards at the club indoor range.

The rifle may be supported by a shooting aid and can be shot from either a standing or sitting position, when sitting the rifle sits in a rest on a table or purpose built bench, hence the name bench rest.

It is the most accurate type of shooting, with an aim to group shots as close together creating a ‘tight group’, as opposed to typical target shooting where the shooter aims to hit the bull of the target. To further improve the shooters precision, the shooter then progresses to create a group around the bull of the target.

It can be rewarding and frustrating, but it is great fun.
