The Black Powder section within HESA encompasses a wide range of firearms from many different eras of history, shot at distances from 25 up to 1000 yards. These firearms are not limited to muzzleloaders as black powder was used in cartridge rifles until the advent of smokeless powder in the late 1880’s. Black powder is still used for the primitive hunting season in the USA in modern ‘inline’ rifles.
Firearms take many forms handgonne’s, single barrelled duelling pistols, cap and ball revolvers, muskets, percussion and cartridge rifles. Ignition systems are can be a simple match, flintlock, percussion cap or primer in a cartridge.
All are welcome, we also sometimes hold competitions like two gun 12 shot western shootouts and single shot duels.
